Everything You Need To Know About Creating A Custom Christmas Card

Christmas is one of the most wonderful times of year when families and friends get together to celebrate together. It's also a long time tradition for Christmas cards to be mailed out to everyone you know. Sometimes families even include a summary letter of what their family has been doing throughout the year. Before the internet we'd get boxes of generic cards at the store to send out to everyone, however now it's popular and way more personal to send out custom photo Christmas cards. Custom cards can be personalized to show and write whatever you want! I've made them for the past few years and I always save a copy for myself in my photo albums so I can see them in future years.

What Kind of Photo Should I Use?

The photo you use is up to you but here are a few ideas of what you can use. Some of these are what I've used in the past based on what happened during that year. It's a good way to memorialize and summarize what your year was all about.

  • Newborn photo - did you have a new baby this year? Adding a picture of your new baby is always adorable, especially if it's a Christmas themed picture of the baby, maybe in a crocheted Santa hat?

  • Family Photo - many families get professional family photos. It's common, if you look for local photographers in your area, that you'll find one that's offering Christmas "mini" sessions that have a holiday themed background.

  • Wedding Photo - If you got married this year, choose your favorite picture from that day and use it in your Christmas card! We did this the year we got married and it was perfect.

  • Pet Photo - did you get a new pet this year? or maybe your pets are your kids. Either way, take a cute photo of your pets with some Christmas decor around them and use it to send out. Everyone loves looking at cute pets!

How Do I Make a Christmas Card Online?

Making Christmas cards online is super easy and you're guided on what to do throughout the whole process, but here are the typical steps you'd use:

  1. Pick your custom card making website and make an account

  2. Go to their holiday section of card templates you can choose from

  3. After picking your favorite template (and it might be hard because there's so many great options!)

  4. Go through the customization options such as color, text, photo selection and card shape

  5. Order a sample of the card, or order a bunch to send out right away

  6. Choose extra add-ons, such as printing your return address on the (included) envelopes

It's that easy! You don't have to be artsy or creative because the majority of it is done for you. Simply choose the customizations from the options given, write what you want to say and that's it. You'll be sending out your custom cards to share with family and friends very simply. Save one for yourself and put them in your photo albums like I do, it's a great way to see how your life has changed over the years!
